Zwischen 1969 und 1973 studierte er Franz\u00f6sisch am Erzs\u00e9bet-Szil\u00e1gyi-Gymnasium in Budapest. Zwischen 1973 und 1978 studierte er ungarisch-franz\u00f6sische und vergleichende Literaturgeschichte an der Fakult\u00e4t f\u00fcr Geisteswissenschaften der E\u00f6tv\u00f6s Lor\u00e1nd Universit\u00e4t. Von 1978 bis zu seinem Tod war er wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl f\u00fcr moderne ungarische Literaturgeschichte an der ELTE BTK, ab 1997 war er au\u00dferordentlicher Professor.
