He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Pázmány Péter University in 1946.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law of Pázmány Péter University in 1946. Between 1947 and 1968 he lived in Bratislava, where he was a miner, sailor, bricklayer, teacher, radio editor, director of a publishing company, Hungarian secretary of the Czechoslovak Writers’ Union, editor of the Literary Review. In 1968 he emigrated to Novi Sad. In 1970 he moved to Austria, where he lived in Vienna. Since 1986 he has been a professor.
