Degree in Hungarian and German philology. Until 1974, he researched Hungarian-German literary relations and the literature of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy at the Institute of Literary Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, then he was editor of the Europa Publishing House, and later director of the Hungarian Book Club. In 1995, he was awarded a medal by Austria for his work in fostering Austro-Hungarian literary relations.
