Ákos Kertész

András Nagy is a Hungarian writer, playwright, screenwriter and university professor.

He has written or co-authored scripts for several films and TV movies. His own works for the stage have been performed abroad. His novel Makra has been translated into 12 languages and has sold 1.2 million copies worldwide (Makra, 1972; Name Day, 1973; Rock Wall/Grooms, 1976; Twenty-one, 1984; Family House with a Manzard, 1984). His short novel, He Who Dares Wins, was published in Bulgarian in Sofia in 1984, and his novel Makra, also in Bulgarian, was published in 1988. Several of his works have been published in French, Romanian, German, Czech, Polish, Russian, Slovak, Swedish, Estonian, Japanese, Spanish, etc. His main novels and plays reflect the Hungarian society of the 1960s and 1970s from the point of view of the young and the working classes. His stage plays are still performed beyond Hungary’s borders, one of his most successful plays being The Widows, which has been and is still being performed all over Central and Eastern Europe, and has even reached Armenia.
