Dr Amedeo Di Francesco taught Hungarian language and literature at the University of Naples "L'Orientale" from 1976 to 2017. He currently teaches Hungarian literature at the University of Cassino.

He holds honorary doctorates from the University of Miskolc and the University of Debrecen. In 1971, he graduated from the University of Rome with a degree in Hungarian. In 1975 he received his Candidate’s degree from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

In 1994, he was awarded the Premio Internazionale Sebetia-Ter per la Cultura in Naples for his cultural activities. Since 1995 he has been editor-in-chief of the Annali dell’Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale” – Studi Finno-Ugrici.

In 1996, the Minister of Culture and Public Education of the Republic of Hungary awarded him the Pro Cultura Hungarica Medal.

From 1996 to 2006 he was President of the International Hungarian Philological Society (later International Society for Hungarian Studies), currently a member of the Board of Trustees.In 2002 he was the founder of the Hungarica et Slavica book series (with Boris Uspenski and Aleksander Wilkoń) published by M. D’Auria, Naples, and in 2008 of the Ister – Collana di Studi Ungheresi series (Edizioni dell’Orso, Alessandria).

In 2002, he was awarded the Central Cross of the Hungarian Order of Merit by the President of the Republic of Hungary for the cultivation and development of Hungarian-Italian relations.In 2006, the International Hungarian Studies Society awarded him the János Lotz Memorial Medal for his significant research, teaching and organizational work in the field of Hungarian Studies. He has more than three hundred and forty publications in Italian, Hungarian, English, French, German, Croatian and Hungarian.

He has given academic lectures on hungarology around the world.
