Few people have done more to promote Hungarian literature abroad than he
Few people have done more to promote Hungarian literature abroad than he; in the three-volume anthology ‘Csodaszarvas’ (Cvi Haplaot), which he translated, he presented the best of Hungarian poetry from Bálint Balassi to the present day. In addition to the Pro Cultura Hungarica Prize, he has also received the Janus Pannonius Literary Translator’s Lifetime Achievement Award of the Hungarian PEN Club. This picture was taken in Tel Aviv in 2011, before the launch of my Hebrew-Hungarian poetry book, The Night Porter. He translated the whole book into Hebrew, and I’ve been very proud of that ever since. Thank you for everything, dear Itamar!
